The chateau is ideal for families. There is a large fenced swimming pool, a large garden with fields, a stream, a small wood and plenty of activities. The chateau also lends itself as a venue for business meetings or conferences. There is plenty of accommodation space for up to 16 adults, and 6 children. There is a salt-water swimming pool (15x7metres) with a patio and security alarm. The views from the pool are spectacular. There is plenty of shade for outdoor summer eating. The Chateau is set in 32 beautiful acres of beautiful gardens, fields, woods and open land. Enjoy cycling along the local lanes, boating on the lake just minutes away, horse riding, tennis on your doorstep, canoeing on the Dordogne and skiing on day trips. Surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of forests and mountains, and the beautiful valley of the Dordogne, our chateau lies within a spectacular setting. The chateau is situated 500 feet above sea level on one of the beautiful plateaux of the Massif Central. The present chateau, built in 1670, has always been the property of the Barons of the town until it was purchased by the current owners 2 years ago.

This large chateau is set in seven acres of parkland and woods on the edge of the charming town of Marcillat en Combraille. Situated in the Auvergne, the property is available for holidays all year round, each season offering its own special delights. The chateau can accommodate up to eighteen people at any one time in individually themed suites and rooms. The decor features a mixture of English and French styles and reflects the owner’s passion for antiques. The chateau is your private space for the duration of the holiday. The pool and the surrounding sunbathing areas are also for your exclusive use during your stay. This pool is surrounded by a fence with a padlocked gate and there is an alarm which is turned on when not in use. The Auvergne, in the Massif Central, is big country: rushing rivers, leaping chamois, swooping peregrine falcons. Yet all the familiar pleasures of holidaying in France are here, too. There are even inland beaches around the lakes with miniature riverias, safe swimming and unlimited water sports. There are many lovely old towns to explore along with castles and medieval lava stone houses like Besse. In summer these towns echo to the sound of music during the many festivals of classical, rock, jazz, street-theatre and world culture. Elegant spas like Vichy offer casinos, fitness centres and fine dining. And, in the countryside, village life is as seductive as any Song of the Auvergne. The house is centrally heated and has three double + one twin bedrooms. One double is on ground floor and has en-suite shower room with WC etc. There’s a bathroom on the first floor and shower room on second floor. Large sitting/dining room, on first floor, has satellite TV (BBC & ITV channels) + DVD/CD player; the dining table seats 10. Kitchen, on the first floor, has large table, Rangemaster cooker, dishwasher and family fridge. Off kitchen is a south facing terrace, good for sunbathing and al fresco dining. Utility room has washer & dryer.
